"It's impossible for me to describe what I felt on Sunday night (sep 28, 2003), opening the concert for Mercedes Sosa. All I can say is that I will never forget that moment, not only singing in front of a large audience that received my music with their hearts open but also to have the oportunity of meeting Mercedes and talk a few words with her it was just very special.
I can't even remember the first time I heard Mercedes' songs . Her voice is so familiar for me that I think I can sing all her songs by heart. Having the opportunity of oppening her concert and being with her before the show was a dream come true. I was so nervous I could'nt even tell her all I wanted to, like "you are one of the reasons why I became a singer" or "you are the singer I admire the most since I was a little girl"... but for some reason her presence gave us all peace.
There she was where we were doing our sound check... so quiet, just waiting for us to finish so she could do her sound check. while we were ALL crazy, running around with mics and instruments she was walking slowly like this was a regular day in her life, and probably it was, while she was getting ready for another sold-out show, I was living the most important day of my music career (so far). And so the time passed, I sung my 4 songs and she came up to the stage to sing her songs, some new and lots of old ones that made us cry. One question was on my mind when I heard her sing that night, right after me, right on the same place I was minutes before "where does this voice come from?, how can a woman like this, so peacefull and calm, produce this sound so unique and universal?"
The answer is there, somehow we don't know why we feel as we do when this woman, this singer, this Argentinean opens her mouth and her heart.
Thanks again to MultiStage.org for inviting us to be part of a great night!"
